St. Peter’s provides shelter from the cold and compassion from the heart.​

When winter weather becomes dangerously cold, St. Peter’s opens its doors to neighbors experiencing homelessness. From December 1 through March 31, our Emergency Cold Weather Shelter opens when the temperature or wind chill is expected to fall below 25°F, transforming the Son & Sand Retreat Center into a safe, warm place where guests are welcomed with compassion, dignity, and care.

This ministry is made possible through the Ocean City Crisis Coalition, a partnership of local congregations working together to ensure no one in our community has to face severe winter weather alone. With the help of dedicated volunteers, guests receive  more than a warm place to sleep. A hot dinner is served each evening, breakfast is available in the morning, and bus passes are provided to help guests with transportation. Guests can also take a hot shower and have their clothes washed, offering some of the everyday comforts and necessities that can make a meaningful difference during a difficult time.

For St. Peter’s, the Emergency Cold Weather Shelter is more than providing a place to sleep. It is a tangible expression of Christ’s call to love our neighbors and care for one another—especially when the need is greatest.
