Our faith reaches beyond our doors.

At St. Peter’s, caring for one another does not stop at the church doors. Our Community Service Ministry Team looks for meaningful ways to extend God’s love into the community—especially during seasons and moments when a little extra help can make a big difference.

Throughout the year, the team brings together the generosity of our congregation to support children, families, military members, and neighbors facing unexpected challenges. Some projects happen every year. Others begin simply because we see a need and know we can help.

Where there’s a need, we find a way to help .

Many of our Community Service projects are seasonal or respond to a particular need in our community. They include:

• School Supply Drives — helping local children start the school year with the supplies they need to succeed.
• Christmas Angel Trees — making Christmas brighter by connecting our congregation with children and families who could use some extra support.
• Military Care Packages — sending encouragement, comfort, and reminders of home to members of our military.
• Food & Essential-Item Collections — mobilizing our congregation to respond to specific needs within the community.
• Adopting Families in Need — providing practical assistance to local families during particularly difficult times.
• Special Care Projects — responding when an unexpected circumstance creates an opportunity to help a neighbor in need.

St. Peter’s commitment to caring for our neighbors also includes our Open Door Food Pantry and Free Wednesday Lunches, which serve our community throughout the year.   

​We also repurpose our retreat center in the winter months to provide emergency shelter for those who need a warm meal and place to stay out of the elements

Sometimes serving means leading a project. Sometimes it means buying a backpack, wrapping a Christmas gift, or filling a box. It all matters.

Community Service offers plenty of ways to participate—and you don't have to commit to every project or serve all year long. You can choose the opportunities that fit your interests, abilities, and schedule.  You might:

• Donate food, school supplies, gifts, or other requested items
• Shop for an Angel Tree child or adopted family
• Help organize and sort donations
• Assemble military care packages
• Coordinate or support a seasonal collection
• Deliver donated items to community partners or families
• Help identify community needs and potential service opportunities
• Volunteer for a specific project that speaks to your heart

Meet the Ministry Leader

Mary Lou, Community Services Ministry Team Leader
Mary Lou  has been part of the St. Peter’s family since the mid-1970s, and service has been woven throughout her life at the church. With a professional career rooted in social services, including experience as an executive director, Mary Lou understands both the importance of recognizing a need and the power of bringing people together to respond to it.

What has kept Mary Lou connected to St. Peter’s for so many years is the congregation’s willingness to put faith into action. She believes deeply in sharing what we have, caring for our neighbors, and finding ways—large and small—to make a difference.

For Mary Lou, service is simply part of what it means to live her faith.
