Ministry in Action

At St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, ministry is more than a program—it is faith put into action.  Whether serving our local community, supporting one another in times of need, or sharing God’s love through acts of compassion, St. Peter’s ministries are at work every day, bringing faith to life and strengthening connections within our church and beyond.

Open Door Feeding Ministry

We provide a free hot lunch and distributes bags of groceries to individuals and families every Wednesday from 12:00 to 1:30 PM, year-round. This welcoming ministry also offers a time of fellowship, care, and conversation, with opportunities to connect guests with additional support and resources as needed. There are no requirements—everyone is welcome simply by showing up.

Community Services Ministry

We reach beyond our church walls to support neighbors in need. We provide school supplies for children at local Title I schools, assist families with holiday meals and gift cards at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, and send cards and care packages to active-duty military personnel. Your support helps us share compassion, encouragement, and Christ’s love with our community.

The Son & Sand Retreat Center, located on the west end of the St. Peter’s campus, welcomes youth groups, church groups, mission teams, and other organizations throughout the year. Just minutes from the beach, the retreat center provides a unique setting for spiritual growth, fellowship, recreation, and service opportunities within the local community. Whether gathering for a weekend retreat, mission experience, or group getaway, guests find a comfortable and inviting place to connect, learn, and renew.

During the colder months, St. Peter’s extends Christ’s love and hospitality by opening the Son & Sand Retreat Center as a Cold Weather Shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness when severe weather conditions make it unsafe to be outdoors. This important ministry is a partnership among several local congregations known as the Ocean City Crisis Coalition.  Made possible through the dedication of caring volunteers, the shelter provides guests with a warm, safe place to spend the night, along with a home-cooked dinner and breakfast, shower facilities, laundry services, and a comfortable bed. Through this outreach, St. Peter’s and its community partners offer not only physical comfort but also dignity, compassion, and hope to those in need.
