LANTERN HILL, CANON BUENA VISTA, MEXICO
Lantern Hill is an educational youth program established by Abby and JJ Williams in 2007. Located in Canon Buena Vista, Mexico, the mission of Lantern Hill is "Breaking the chains of poverty through love, education and care." Lantern Hill offers tutoring, after school and summer school programs, meals and related support to families who are a part of Lantern Hill. They recently started an organic gardening program and are exploring other sustainable development projects such as raising free-range chickens to provide eggs for the community. They are also currently in the process of developing a small computer lab and hope to provide guest houses in the near future to accommodate additional staff and volunteers. The Lantern Hill staff currently consists of seven members from the community who oversee the daily operations, serving 40-60 school age youth and their families. Lantern Hill offers both short-term and long-term volunteer opportunities for individuals, groups or families. |
